According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, more than 1 in 3 adults were considered to have obesity. Now think about this statistic in relation to the adults working for companies that offer employee benefits. Adults with obesity experience far more health problems during their lives than regular, healthy adults. Diabetes, heart disease and some cancers are a few examples of illnesses that an obese person may obtain at one point of their life. The medical costs for these people are rising with every trip to the doctor, and there is also evidence that the lower productivity due to inactivity and slow execution at the office yields lost wages.
One way to prevent obesity from damaging your company is to act on it before it begins to affect your employees’ productivity and costs. What do you think about this epidemic? Share your thoughts with us.
